Who I am

I grew up in Eustis, attended Eustis public schools, and chose to raise my children here. I am passionate about preserving the things that make Lake County such a special place to live. I am a fiscal conservative, independent thinker and active community leader.

I am a Republican: I have been a registered Republican since the day I first registered to vote, and while the “party” is not perfect I believe in key principles that align with the Republican platform and I believe that progressive and left wing propaganda is attempting to destroy the American values that define us.

I believe America is exceptional and our form of government, while not perfect, is the best form of government in the world; I believe in limited government and personal liberties and the second amendment as an integral part of protecting our inalienable rights as human beings; I believe in God and I understand that our constitution and form of government relies on a society that seeks to be moral.

I believe in the rule of law, the consistent application of the law as a means to protect our civil rights and constitutional rights, and I believe that a country without borders puts law abiding citizens at risk and a country without secure borders cannot survive. Having said that, I believe in lawful immigration and political asylum to those who believe in the above-stated American principles and who are being persecuted for these beliefs and who want to become Americans and contribute to our society in a positive way. In American history there have been “pauses” in immigration for valid reasons, and this should never be off the table as something necessary to protect American interests.

My Background and Experience regarding Growth Management and our Local Economy: I attended the University of Florida College of Law and have practiced real property, land use and environmental law for over 30 years, so I am very familiar with the complex growth management issues facing residents in Lake County. I carefully consider the concerns of all parties involved and the long term impacts of each case, including whether there are existing rights and entitlements (which may subject Lake County to expensive lawsuits) and how to protect surrounding landowners and address safety and infrastructure needs.

As a business owner, I know firsthand the challenges facing our local businesses. When considering the adoption of local ordinances, I am always cognizant of the impact such regulations have on the cost of doing business. I understand the importance of workforce development. We cannot attract or maintain high wage jobs in Lake County without educational programs to back up our workforce.

Local Issues: I care deeply about local issues which impact our families, having raised my own family here. And now I have a new perspective as a grandmother of 5 grandchildren. Lake County has changed in many ways since I was a child, but the qualities that brought me back to Lake County remain the same: we have beautiful natural resources, parks, trails and waterways, and an abundance of outdoor activities; our unique towns and cities have tremendous community pride and public engagement; and our faith based community, civic organizations and non-profit organizations, and everyone who is involved in these organizations, make Lake County an incredible place to live.

As your current Lake County Commissioner, I have

  • Voted against tax increases

  • Stayed true to conservative principles, eliminated inefficiencies in local government, and protected our constitutional rights

  • Fought to protect rural lands from municipal annexations which allow high density subdivisions

  • Supported our First Responders and improved response times

  • Brought high wage jobs to Lake County and expanded vocational training

  • Fought for more funding from the Florida Department of Transportation for much needed improvements to State Roads in Lake County (e.g. SR 44B, US 441, US 27, Hwy 50, SR 19) and for County Roads that relieve pressure on State Roads (e.g. CR 44 from Eustis to Leesburg, CR 452, CR 42).

  • Established our No Kill Animal Shelter and strong support spay and neuter programs

  • Improved our water quality and fought against special interests threatening our aquifer and quality of life

I want to finish what I started. Rural lands are still at risk of being annexed and used for high density subdivisions, and there are several important road projects I want to get across the finish line. We are at a pivotal time in our County’s history.
