I am launching a newsletter and website so that I can send out periodic Lake County updates and other information you may find interesting. It will not be a blog, but you will be able to send comments directly to me.
There are a lot of positive things happening in Lake County, but we have our share of challenges as we navigate revenue shortfalls, State and Federal “unfunded” mandates passed on to local government, and an ever growing demand for services. For example, did you know that Lake County government is required to use your local taxes to pay Medicaid reimbursements for Lake County residents?
Are you aware that Lake County is required to transport Medicaid patients to the doctor’s office and grocery store (regardless of where they live) if they cannot drive or do not otherwise have transportation?
On a positive note, did you know that a seaplane maintenance and equipment installation company based in Minnesota recently opened a facility at the Leesburg Airport and intends to hire as many as 80 employees?
Are you aware that Lake Tech recently added training and certification for forklift operators because we learned through meetings with local manufacturers there is a shortage of forklift operators in the area?
Did you know that a new interchange on the Florida Turnpike is slated to open in Minneola and construction may begin as early as next year? Were you aware that the area around the interchange has been approved for 300 hotel rooms, 1,400,000 sq. ft industrial, 850,000 sq. ft. office, 610,000 sq. ft. commercial/retail, and the awkward and unsafe intersection of CR 561 and CR 455 is just a short distance away?
Whether you follow Lake County “news” through the printed media, blogs or online outlets, my goal is to provide you with a fact-based information source. When my newsletter crosses into the opinion area, I will acknowledge it by designating that segment as "commentary" or "My Point of View."
I hope you will consider participating. I promise to make it interesting.
